Emily Schmitt L.Ac., MaOM, RN

  Emily Schmitt L.Ac., MaOM, RN

Emily Schmitt received her Master of Science in Oriental Medicine Degree from the American Academy of Oriental Medicine in Roseville, MN.  She is certified as a Diplomat of Acupuncture by the National Certification Commission of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine and licensed in Acupuncture by the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice.

Emily comes into acupuncture and energy work with over 25 years experience as a registered nurse, working with babies in the Newborn ICU.  She knows how appropriate and excellent Western medical care is for many people. She has also seen, however, that there are some cases which are not as effectively treated under this model.

Emily became interested in Chinese medicine and energy healing because it can
address some of these cases so well.  Because Chinese medicine looks at the entire physiological and psychological individual in the context of his or her life and environment, it becomes a very powerful modality for treating dis-ease in an individual.  It works to bring the whole body into balance, so that the body's innate abilities can do the job of a deeper healing.

Emily specializes in using the Balance Method of acupuncture, which is a special method developed by Dr. Richard Tan.  A strong flow of energy is established through the body, so that areas of excess energy behind blockages, and areas of weakness are balanced out.  Dr Tan teaches that we should "stand the pole and see the shadow".  Often, very dramatic results are seen when pain or other discomfort disappears or improves greatly, as the needles are inserted.

Emily also has found auricular acupuncture and acupressure to be a very effective way to treat many conditions.  A map of the ear has been developed, and research has shown, for instance, that if pressure is put on the "foot" area of the ear and on the actual foot, the same area of the brain is stimulated.  Here is an interesting article about Auricular Acupuncture and Anxiety.

Emily has also been trained in, and loves working with, several modalities of energy healing, or non-needle ways of moving energy and healing.  These modalities include meridian therapies such as EFT, and exciting energy healing modalities such as Reconnective Healing, and The Reconnectiontm.  Discover Reconnective Healing™

Emily loves learning, and is fascinated by energy medicine, whether it be the thousands of years old system of acupuncture, medical qi gong, or the modern methods such as EFT which hold such promise for us. I bring the techniques that work well for me into my practice, so there are always many tools to choose from, depending on the individual needs of the people I see.
